Professor Manny Saavedra is the founder of the World Sansei Goju-Ryu Karate and Kobudo Organization. Professor Saavedra trained indirectly under Grandmaster Peter Urban, the founder of American Goju. He received his black belt by training at the famous Chinatown Dojo in New York City.
In 1969, professor Saavedra opened his first Dojo in Corona Queens, New York. In 1972, he moved to South Florida, at which time he brought within the ideas of the World Sansei Goju-Ryu Karate and Kobudo Organization. In 1980 the organization was founded. Since then, Sansei has grown to encompass schools in Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Chile, Ecuador, Israel, South Africa, and United States. In addition to the schools in the U.S., Sansei has karate programs in place at five different universities. Professor Saavedra has been an instructor at the university level for the past sixteen years in both Florida and New York. He is developed many new techniques and ideas in the art of self-defense and has expanded his method of training to cover the present day American form of living, thinking, and training. |
